I have a unique perspective regarding Musicians, Luthiers
and Entertainers. I have been playing guitar since the age
of eight, played professionally in many bands since the
age of twelve and was a "music major" when first
entering college. I have had many of these professionals, mentioned
above, as "clients" over the years, and also have made a
living working in each of these fields as well.
In
1983 I graduated from University of South Florida and worked
in many different corporations, including an S.E.C.
regulated, publicly traded corporation, as Controller, until
1986. At that time I opened my own practice and returned to U.S.F.
to work on my Masters of Accountancy. In 1993 I finished
my Post Graduate work (Florida requires all CPA candidates
complete at least 30 credit hours on the Graduate Level),
took the Florida C.P.A. exam and passed. I then continued
in my Practice as a Licensed, Certified Public Accountant
in Sarasota, Florida, where I continue to practice today.
Since
the beginning of my Musical Career, I have always been
fascinated with the complexities and fine craftsmanship of
Luthiery. For the last Twenty(20) years I have been repairing, building,
and customizing both Electric and Acoustic Guitars. I have
studied with Master Luthiers such as Greg Back, Buzz Feiten,
Harry Fleishman ,Ervin Somogyi, Sylvan Wells and Richard &
Marshall Brune. almost 10 years ago I incorporated my Lutherie
business, and formed Siesta Key Guitars, Inc.. "S.K.G."
is now a full time, Luthiery operation, Building, Repairing,
and Customizing (both Electric and Acoustic) Stringed Instruments.
Today
I have many different CPA clientele, many are Luthiers,
Musicians, Entertainers and Pro Athletes. I have many more
of these same professionals as guitar customers . Since I am actively
engaged in the luthiery business, I feel I have a
keen sense of business, income tax, and other issues unique
to the profession. I am Florida Supreme Court Certified
Mediator and Arbitrator and currently hear cases on all
sorts of issues for F.I.N.R.A. (N.A.S.D.).
