Here
are some Comments from Local Players
on MY work in general:
This one is
from Richard the co-author of a soon to be famous hurricane
song. He knows exactly what he wants and I try to deliver. Here's a recent email
he sent for me to post on 8/27/08 in it's entirety:
"Gentle
readers of this web site. I am
thinking of creating the David Bland
guitar museum right in my own home.
I must admit that Dave has done
nothing to help me deal with my
Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS),
in fact due to his fabulous work I
am ever looking to contact and
possess interesting guitars. Each
guitar he has worked on for me has
turned into a unique masterpiece. He
has enabled my fondness for 12
strings by doing a brilliant neck
reset on an old Martin D-12-28 that
now plays like butter and sounds
like bells from heaven. He put the
Buzz Feiten tuning system and set up
my Epiphone Dot so that it is
virtually indistinguishable from the
Gibson ES-335 it was supposed to
copy, he put electronics on my Guild
F212XL, he rescued my Taylor 314ce
with a neck reset (my friends all
love this one). The big one, of
course was the surgical
reconstruction of my Martin HD-28,
which was essentially a bag of
braces with glue all over them when
he started, and is now the finest
sounding guitar I've ever played.
Dave's professionalism, attention to
detail and the fact that he's an all
around good egg add to the mix. The
only problem is I don't feel like
selling any of them. And I'm still
looking for more for him to work on.
Recently Mr.
Charles Carey ( Jazz Studies professor and Heritage
endorser) emailed me with an unfortunate, but all too
typical, story of an authorized, but poorly trained level-one technician
(you know the type they are all over the place now). The guy
tried tried to retro-fit BFTS. The result was a
disasterously poor job. He immediately shipped the guitar to me.
Fortunately, I was able to "fix" the debauchery of
the so-called "level-one bfts tech". Here are some of
Charles's words...After the repair, and
re-install of BFTS the proper way..."Hey Dave
thank you for an incredible job. If you won't take any more
cash I feel like I should send you about 3,000,000
referrals."...Charles Carey - professional guitarist,
professor of jazz studies and Heritage guitar endorser.
This one
was sent to me via email (6/22/08) by one of my customers
that saw a comment made by yet another. Reproduced here in
it's un-redacted form:
Richard
posted the following on the Unofficial Martin Guitar
Forum:
"My HD-28 had major
surgery performed by Luthier David Bland of Siesta Key
Guitars. David did a spectacular job of repairing and
restoring her. The results far surpassed my imagination
of how good this guitar could become. He is a master
craftsman who truly cares about getting things right.
Thank you Dave Cowles for referring him and a BIG thank
you to David Bland. "
Here's the email the same
customer (Richard) sent me regarding the same :
"The HD-28 you recreated
is without a doubt the best of my herd and as good as
any guitar I have ever played. Tonight I played for
about three hours with friends. Amplified it sounds
incredible. "
"Just had to
let you know that I have a new favorite. The 58 is frikken
awesome. I cannot believe the difference and I thought it
was fine before( BUZZ FEITEN)....again, you are the genius.
You are the artist. The 58 is slicker than snot on a glass
doorknob. So here is the order of my favorites that you
have set up with BFTS...the 58 reissue, Telecaster, Squire,
Strat, 60 classic LP...." Mad Mike Monahan -
lead guitarist of "Mad Mike and the Myakka Maniacs." - Other
wise known as the "M4" playing "kick ass rock-n-roll"
11/2007
"David - The D-18 is now all that I envisioned it could
be, as far as sound and playability. I took it to our monthly
bluegrass weekend in Arcadia last weekend. It generated
some very favorable comments re. the sound, projection,
tone, etc. Once again, I am most pleased. You done good.
" - Dave Cowles - Bluegrass picker - SRQ
"David - just wanted to let you know that the mandolin
now has reached the level where it realizes all of my dreams
for it. Sounds, plays and looks AWESOME! You're the greatest...God
bless." Dave Cowles
- Bluegrass guitar and Mando player - Sarasota, FL
"
I played the Axe last night and it's DREAMY MAN...I LOVE
IT". Brad Wendkos - Guitarist, Pres./Owner
of Truefire.com
"Dave, Just got done playing the guitar and I need
to make up a name for it. It truly is a work of art and
sounds...well I can't explain! I keep hearing new things
and I'll have to learn how to play it. The work is absolutely
superb. It has been built with love and care by a Master
Luthier! You are truly an artist. As I look at the wood
I remember seeing it laying in your living room... Over
time things came together and it seemed like a long time
but excellence can not be rushed. So my brother, thank you
so much from the bottom of my heart. I will treasure it
always. I will get the Gibson down to you soon and you can
do your magic on the neck... you are truly a brother and
I love you man! I can trust no other to work on my guitars!
Johnny Mag. God bless!"
- John Magnuson, Blues Guitarist - Tampa, Fl.
"
I am a Heritage Endorser...the Feiten thing is PERFECT and
an obvious difference in intonation!". I am so convinced
....in the Buzz Feiten System, I have made it mandatory
for all Students in my Classes" - Charles
Carey - Professional Guitarist, Heritage Guitar Endorser,
Professor of Jazz Studies.
" I play a chord and it sounds like single note! I've
had other musicians play it and say WOW! Thanks again for
all your dedication to perfection and your passion with
guitars. Since you put BFTS on my guitar it is in a class
of it's own" . John Magnuson - Tampa Bay
Guitarist, Engineer
" Without proper intonation there is no music. Now
that I have BFS on my Guitars my music has never sounded
better. I love the full rich sound of a guitar in tune ,
not only with itself, but with everyone else in the band...BEST
THING I've EVER DONE!". - Roy Garcia -
Tampa Bay Jazz Guitarist, Instructor and Machinist.
" As a Professional Studio Musician I truly appreciate
an instrument that plays in tune with itself. I have put
BFS on all my actively used guitars and even on some of
my old collectors. I wish I had this system 20yrs ago!"
Chuck McKenna - Studio Guitarist - Steve
Hunter, Dick Wagner fame.
" ...to me pushing and pulling strings and even re-tuning
has been an inconvenient fact of life. Buzz Feiten does
exactly what guys like me need...now any chord, at any position
rings clear and true...better playing and more of it. The
PERFECT accessory for any guitar."
- Michael S. Conklin, The Bottom Rung Band- Guitar Player,
Sarasota Fl.
I just wanted to let you know I love what you did to my
guitar. Man, I can't put it down. This BFTS is Great! I
also appreciate the extra work you did as far as touching
up the dings and stuff. And the way you completed the job
and turned it around so quick was great. If you ever need
me as a reference feel free to use me. I am telling all
the players I know about this... - Phillip Spivey,
Guitar Player, - Andalusia, AL
Dave! Awesome job on the Buss Feiten System! I love it!
As soon as I can .... I'll have another one for you! Thanks
for doing a great job! - Scott Angley , Guitar
Player/Designer - Angley Guitars - Venice. Fl
Hi David, well I've had the Strat (back) for two days now.
Like Larry Carlton, I have been playing since I was eight
years old and until now have never had a guitar to play
in tune all over the neck. BFTS was worth every penny thank
you much!!! Also the frets are perfect all your work is
outstanding !!! no issues at all. Does the BFTS System work
on Floyd Rose as well? My other guitars are coming soon
Thanks Again.... - Ray Smith, Ft. Lauderdale
Guitarist and A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER!!!
Hey
buddy I just received the guitar and accessories today,
Thanks a bunch man! I appreciate it. I also left some positive
feedback for you (on ebay). Check you out buddy. Thank you.
- Edel gil Gutierrez , Guitarist - Puerto Rico
I
received the guitar yesterday. All the stuff you did to
it was amazing. It was well worth the time and effort to
get that done. It is going to affect the way I play guitar
in many ways for a very long time. Also, thank you for fixing
the ding on the neck. It was an extraordinary kindness,
rare in this day and age. All of the advise you have given
me has been highly useful. And I will suggest your work
to any of my friends if they ever mention a problem with
one of their guitars. - Murray Mcleod, Guitarist
